Bloom Where You’re Planted | Lucy’s Blair High School Senior Session

Some senior sessions are built around a favorite sport or hobby. Others are inspired by a place that's always felt like home.

For Lucy, the inspiration was simple: flowers.

As someone who has always loved gardens, beautiful blooms, and timeless style, it only made sense to plan her senior session around two of Lincoln's most iconic locations - the Sunken Gardens and the Sheldon Museum of Art on the University of Nebraska–Lincoln campus. Together, they created the perfect backdrop for a gallery that felt elegant, colorful, and uniquely her.

Photographing Lucy was especially meaningful because she's my niece. I've had the privilege of watching her grow into the confident, kind, and driven young woman she is today, so capturing this milestone was one I'll always treasure.

From the moment we arrived at the Sunken Gardens, everything came together naturally.

The vibrant flowers and winding pathways complemented Lucy's love of nature while adding beautiful color and texture to every image. Whether she was surrounded by blooming flowers or strolling through the gardens, each photograph reflected the joy and confidence she brings wherever she goes.

For the second half of her session, we headed to the Sheldon Museum of Art. The clean architecture, classic columns, and open spaces offered a completely different look, giving her gallery even more variety while keeping the overall feel timeless and sophisticated.

One of my favorite parts of Lucy's session was how thoughtfully she chose her wardrobe.

With three outfits - all featuring dresses or skirts - each look fit beautifully with the elegant settings we selected. Instead of focusing on trends, her outfits complemented the locations and allowed her personality to take center stage. The result was a gallery that feels cohesive, classic, and effortlessly beautiful.

Although Lucy loves dance, she chose not to center her senior session around that part of her life. I love that decision because it serves as a reminder that senior portraits don't have to tell every chapter of your story. Sometimes they're simply about celebrating who you are at this moment.

And what an exciting moment it is.

After graduation from Blair High School, Lucy plans to pursue a career in diagnostic medical sonography (ultrasound), combining her compassion, dedication, and desire to help others into a profession that will make a difference in people's lives. While she hasn't decided where she'll attend school just yet, there's no doubt she has an exciting future ahead.

One of the greatest gifts of photography is preserving moments that pass far too quickly. Senior year is full of anticipation, change, and possibility, and I'm so grateful I had the opportunity to capture this season for someone who means so much to me.

Congratulations, Lucy! I can't wait to see where life takes you next.

Advice for Future Seniors

When choosing locations for your senior session, think beyond what's popular. The best locations are the ones that reflect your personality and style. Whether you love flowers, architecture, wide-open fields, or downtown city streets, selecting places that feel like you will create portraits that remain meaningful long after graduation.

If you're beginning to plan your senior session, I'd love to help you choose locations, outfits, and a style that tells your story. Together, we'll create images that celebrate exactly who you are during this unforgettable season of life.
