Quiet Confidence | Kael's Lincoln Southwest Senior Session

Not every senior walks into a photo session ready to talk your ear off.

Some are outgoing. Some are goofy. Some have a million ideas.

And some are a little more reserved.

Kael definitely fell into that last category. In fact, he was one of the quietest seniors I've photographed. But as we worked our way through his session, it became clear that quiet doesn't mean there isn't a story to tell.

For Kael's senior session, we spent time in two very different settings around Lincoln - the Haymarket and the Lincoln Southwest baseball field. The contrast gave us the opportunity to create a gallery that felt both polished and personal.

Kael brought four outfits to his session: a suit, two casual looks, and his Lincoln Southwest baseball uniform. Each outfit brought something different to the gallery, from the classic look of his suit to the more relaxed feel of his casual outfits.

And, of course, the baseball uniform was a must.

Baseball is an important part of Kael's high school experience, so heading to the field gave us the opportunity to capture that side of his story. There's something special about photographing seniors in the places where they've spent so much of their time during high school. The field isn't just a backdrop - it's part of the memories they're making.

The Haymarket gave us a completely different setting. The brick, architecture, and urban feel created a great contrast to the baseball field and allowed us to create plenty of variety throughout his gallery.

One thing I loved about Kael's session was that we didn't try to make him into someone he wasn't.

He didn't need to be loud or overly animated. He didn't need to come up with a funny pose or force a huge smile. We simply worked at his pace, gave him direction when he needed it, and let his natural personality come through.

Your senior portraits should feel like you - not like someone else's idea of what a senior session is supposed to look like.

At the time of his session, Kael wasn't quite sure what his next chapter would look like after graduation. And honestly, that's okay.

Senior year is a season of possibility. Some people have their entire future mapped out, while others are still figuring out where they're headed. Both are perfectly valid.

What matters is capturing who you are right now, before the next chapter begins.

Advice for Future Seniors

You don't have to be outgoing, energetic, or naturally comfortable in front of a camera to have a great senior session. If you're more reserved, that's completely okay. My job is to guide you through the session while giving you room to be yourself.

And when you're choosing locations, think about the places that have been part of your high school experience. A favorite downtown area, your sports field, a family property, or somewhere else that feels like you can make your senior portraits much more meaningful.

Your senior session doesn't have to look like anyone else's. It should look like you.
