Exploring the World, One Smile at a Time | Deacon's One-Year Milestone Session

There's something magical about one-year-olds.

Everything is new. Everything is exciting. Every flower deserves a closer look, every splash is worth investigating, and every little discovery becomes an adventure.

That's exactly what made Deacon's one-year session so much fun.

I've known Deacon's mom since she was in our church youth group years ago, so seeing her now as a mom herself - and getting the opportunity to photograph this milestone for her family - was especially meaningful. One of my favorite parts of this job is watching families grow and being invited to celebrate each new chapter alongside them.

Like most one-year-olds, Deacon wasn't interested in sitting still for very long. Instead, he wanted to explore everything around him, and honestly, that's exactly how a one-year session should be.

He wandered through the flowers, stopping to smell them with genuine curiosity, splashed happily in the fountain, and greeted each new discovery with the biggest toothy grin. Those unscripted moments are what make milestone sessions so special.

At this age, children don't worry about posing for the camera. They simply experience the world with wonder - and that's where the magic happens.

Some of my favorite images from Deacon's session aren't the ones where he's looking directly at the camera. They're the moments in between: tiny hands reaching toward a flower, little feet exploring the edge of the fountain, and joyful laughter that couldn't have been planned.

Those are the memories parents want to hold onto.

The first year goes by so quickly. One minute they're taking their first steps, and before you know it, they're running off to explore the next adventure. Photographing this stage isn't about capturing perfection - it's about preserving personality, curiosity, and all the little expressions that make this season unforgettable.

Looking through Deacon's gallery, it's impossible not to smile. His joyful spirit, contagious grin, and endless curiosity shine through in every image, creating a collection of memories his family will treasure for years to come.

Happy first birthday, Deacon! Thank you for letting me capture such a fun and meaningful milestone.

Advice for Parents Planning a One-Year Session

Don't worry if your little one won't sit still - that's completely normal! Some of the very best photos happen when children are free to explore, play, and simply be themselves. Bring a favorite snack, let them investigate their surroundings, and trust the process. We'll capture the smiles, the curiosity, and all the little moments that make this age so incredibly special.

If you're planning a first birthday or milestone session, I'd love to help you preserve this unforgettable season of life.
